We are the World, We are the Children, 8th grade
In our English book for the eighth grade, there are some dialogues on the topic of shopping. However, these dialogues do not consider environmental or health aspects. Therefore, we have rewritten them to make them more relevant and up-to-date.

No bread and no eggs!
Mrs Hughes: We’re running out of bread Jim, dear, please, go to the bakers’s and get some bread.
Mr Hughes: All right. But why don’t we bake our bread. We have all the ingredients to bake a bread.
Mrs Hughes: That’s not a bad idea. We don’t have any eggs. We must go and buy some.
Mr Hughes: You’re right. Let’s go.
(They are driving to the shop.)
Mrs Hughes: I can’t wait to go shopping. How about you?
Mr Hughes: Yes, but I am thinking about something.
Mrs Hughes: About what?
Mr Hughes: I have a friend named Rok. He is a farmer. He has cows and chickens. We can get some fresh eggs. Not from the store.
Mrs Hughes: Okay. And he will sell his eggs for a lot cheaper price.
(They went to the farm.)
Mr Hughes: Good morning, Rok!
Rok: Hello fellas. What do you need?
Mrs Hughes: Hi Rok. We need some eggs.
Rok: Oh. Okay. I will go get some.
(He went to grab some eggs.)
Rok: Here you go.
Mr Hughes: Thank you. How much do you need?
Rok: Oh, no, no. You don’t have to pay.
Mr Hughes: Oh thank you, my friend.
Mrs Hughes: Oh, but we don’t have any milk. Do you have some? But we will pay for it.
Rok: I will go and say hello to my cows. I will be right back.
(He went to the cows.)
Rok: Here you go.
Mrs Hughes: Thank you. There you go, 5 dollars.
Rok: Thank you. See you around, bye!
Mr and Mrs Hughes: Bye!

At the supermarket
Batman: I’ll go get a trolley.
Cat woman: Right, let’s go.
Joker: Hang on, Batman, we forgot re-usable bags.
Batman: Oh shoot, I’ll go get them by bike, give me 10 minutes.
Joker: Let’s start shopping, shall we?
Cat woman: What do we need? Milk? Butter? Yoghurt?
Joker: We need 2 glass bottles of milk and a tub of yoghurt.
Cat woman: Oh, let’s move onto the meat and fish.
Joker: We don’t need any meat and fish, we will go to the market tomorrow.
Cat woman: Why, if we can get the meat here?
Joker: The market meat is better quality and it supports local farms.
Cat woman: Ok, ok, you’re right. Let’s get some cereals then.
Joker: No, we have got it at home already and it’s so much plastic for no reason.
Cat woman: But we ran out of choco balls and I want my choco balls. And I don’t care about the plastic.
Joker: Well you should, we’re leaving and next time I’ll come here myself.
Cat woman: Why, I don’t want to leave.
Joker: Well the damage is done, we’ll leave as soon as I’m done paying.
Cashier: It’s gonna be 6.78 pounds, cash or card?
Joker: Cash, here’s 10 pounds
Cashier: Would you like the change of 3.22 pounds or donate it.
Joker: Donate it and don’t bother printing the receipt.
Cashier: Ok, you’re on your way Mr, Good bye.

What are you doing on Friday afternoon?
Dave: What are you doing on Friday afternoon Andy?
Andy: Not much. Why?
Dave: Can you do me a favour?
Andy: It depends. What is it?
Dave: It’s my brother’s birthday on Saturday. Would you help me to buy a present for him?
Andy: I am not sure. Can I think about it?
Dave: Don’t be so mean Andy. I often do favours for you!
Andy: Oh, all right.
Dave: Thanks! You are a star.
Patsy: What’s this? What are you talking about?
Andy: The weekend.
Sue: So, what are you doing this weekend? Are you free on Saturday?
Andy: Yes, I am! I am not doing anything on Saturday. Why?
Sue: Patsy and I are going cycling to the lake. Would you like to come with us?
Andy: Cycling! Cool! I’d love to.
Patsy: There’s a new park behind the lake. It’s opening this Saturday.
Sue: What about you, Dave?
Dave: Count me in! On my brother’s birthday we are also going to the lake by bikes. We can go together.
Patsy: Great! So where are we meeting? Let’s meet in the park at 3 p.m.

The price is right
In the shop that sells second hand things
Andy: Right. What are we after?
Dave: I want to buy an old bag. I saw it last week somewhere over there. It has a lot of pockets.
Assistant: Can I help you?
Dave: We are looking for an old green bag. I saw it last week somewhere over there. It has a lot of pockets.
Assistant: I’m so sorry. We sold it yesterday. But we have the other one right now. Two days ago an old man brought it. Look, it is over there.
Andy: It is really nice. Look, it has got a lot of pockets, too. Your brother will use it for school books and other items.
Dave: I don’t know. This colour isn’t really nice. He won’t like it. And it’s a bit small. Do you have any bigger ones?
Assistant: Yes, we have one. But it is not green. It’s blue.
Andy: I think, he will like it. Blue suits him.
Dave: I agree. How much is it?
Assistant: It is only 3 pounds.
Andy: That cheap. Why?
Assistant: It has a big hole right here.
Andy: Oh, no.
Dave. It isn’t that big problem. I can repair it.
Andy: So, we will buy it?
Dave: Yes we will. Here is 3 pounds.
Assistant: I hope you will repair it well.
Dave: Thanks. Bye.
Assistant: Bye.
(After some time at home.)
Andy: Now, can we repair it?
Dave: I can sew very well.
(After some time.)
Andy: You are really quick.
Dave: Thank you. He will love it.

Always careful in fashion
Patricia: Look at these dresses Claire!
Claire: These maxes?
Patricia: They are beautiful, aren’t they?
Claire: Yes, but they are too expensive. This dress really suits you, but it isn’t worth the price.
Patricia: Oh, I really love it! But you’re right. I will refuse it and save money.
Claire: I can make you a similar dress for free! I have a sewing machine at home.
Patricia: Oh, thank you Claire! My dad will be very happy about this!
Claire: Next time we can go second-hand shopping instead.
