We are the World, We are the Children, 8th Grade

After writing compositions on shopping, the environment, and health, we also created poetry on the same topics. This poetry serves as the cherry on top of the cake, beautifully highlighting the most important themes. The best poems have been selected for your enjoyment. We experimented with modern poetry, which is why the poems have a more contemporary style. Many students used artificial intelligence for assistance, but we believe that poetry is nicer without it. Happy reading!

Alenka Nikšič

In our world we always take,

never give back,

someone has to wake,

responsibility is what we lack.

Be aware, care, value its worth.

Don’t only shop but swap, I know I would,

at stake is our planet Earth.

Live a simple life, may seem hard, but you could.

Don’t be wasteful, don’t throw away,

in someone else's closet your clothes can stay.

Have less possessions, buy local food,

for nature and your body it is good.

Reuse material, spend no money.

Have nice things?

Give to people that can’t afford.

Hana Krasnik Smolič, 8.b

Locally produced,

local,

naturally produced,

high quality,

eco.

Nice to the environment

make by ourselves,

we can do more.

Better for environment,

normally better for health.

Eco-friendly and healthy food.

Simple life,

can’t live that.

Choose easy way,

normally it isn’t right.

Brigita Kočevar, 8.c

Consumers’ society sold in stores.

Organic food, least processed, grow our own.

Improve my habits, simple life, mostly better.

Less plastic, less gasses, less sugar, less junk food.

Walk, go by bike, don’t smoke, don’t drink,

become healthier, hard to do everything right,

dedication to live it.

Maj Golob Frank, 8.c

Shopping is central to our lives

because most things we can’t produce

My family grows what we can,

We still go organic on the weekend buy,

but some things are just hard to get,

like cleaners that don’t make you say BET.

Still, if I’m the only one walking or biking,

will I really make a difference?

If I eat less meat or grow all my own food,

will it matter if you don’t too?

I could try,

but will I have the motivation or time?

Growing your own food is good,

it’s cheaper, and tastes better too.

But everyone lives a different life,

and habits are hard not to stay, true.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t,

but we keep trying,

so you and I could and can live that life, true.
